Grab your coffee and start the countdown to 5:00 p.m., it’s time for the Monday Morning Recap—five categories for five minutes of reading.
Where I’ve Been
Mogollon Rim (Payson, Arizona)
Two weeks ago I filmed the newest Trail Tales at Inner Basin, but just recently I snuck in a quick getaway from the Phoenix heat to the Mogollon Rim near Payson, Arizona. This is my absolute favorite place to car camp in the state. There are cool temps, dense woods, virtually endless free dispersed sites, some decently sized lakes, and it’s all just a few hours away from Phoenix.
Where I’m Going
Maybe you saw a little bent knee and ring action in my video from California, and now it’s time to shop venues. My fiancee and I are going north to visit one in beautiful Sedona and getting in some hikes while we’re there. Fun fact: Hikes are usually free. Wedding venues are usually not.
What’s in the News
The Outdoor Retailer trade show is leaving for Denver, but not before one last showing at Salt Lake City. Local industry retailers, who are understandably bummed about the move, aren’t mincing words on what they think about the decision to uproot and go to Colorado. Read more at The Salt Lake Tribune.
Today’s Gear Envy
I use the same 15 degree bag from Mountain Hardwear, no matter the conditions. When it’s warmer at night, like it was on the Mogollon Rim, I unzip the bag, stick my feet in the foot box, and use the rest like a quilt or comforter. It works, but I’d much rather have something lighter and more minimalist like a dedicated down quilt from Enlightened Equipment*.
Food for Thought
I don’t have a quote or insightful thought—only to say that I’m excited about my upcoming review of The North Face Ultra GORE-TEX® Surround Mid boots which will be posted on the Gore-Tex official blog. I will post a link on social as soon as it’s live!
